I Fell For You

It was her.

Captured by the unforgiving

breath of fear.

Eyes reflected in the golden windows

with copper tears, as the jadeite glass broke her fall,

leaving behind a tattered angel

beneath the malicious fire.

She was kind,.

Her thin, stretched- out sweater

sagging with burden,

for her altruism knew no bounds,

the hunger of others more important than

her own.

I saw it.

The masked figure in the dark,

hands stretched around her ankles,

as they dangled her

over the lofty balcony.

No mercy.

That masked figure –

it could’ve been her.

The one with bloodshot eyes

reflected in the glass.

For she was a reckless mess,

her high notes only touched by

her screams of insanity.

Jealous of the angel’s natural voice

that remain untouched

by avarice.

Or it could’ve been the one with claw-like fingers.

The mighty bald eagle soaring in

on the hummingbird’s nest.

Afraid of the power within,

afraid that her knowledge would emerge

from the shadows of his misdemeanor,

and haunt him to his last breath.

It must be me who discovers

the truth of her demise.

Her body, painted crimson,

lies still on the ivory.

All the truths hidden within

that shall bring forth justice.

For it was I who left her,

in the midst of the blue moon,

shadows stretching towards

that pulled her away. But it was too late.

It was only until years later

that I knew

she was my own.

My daughter.
