Finally Pretty

I tossed my flowing hair behind my head as I swept my favorite color, ravishing red, across my lips and applied a coat of dark mascara. Batting my golden eyelids, I stared as they sparkled in the light, making my brown eyes pop, lashes kissing my rouged cheeks. I slipped on my sister’s sundress, covered with tiny pink and blue flowers, and I twirled like a ballerina, dancing around my room. I stopped at my light-up mirror to admire my reflection. Was I beautiful? I mean, I was practically glowing. I was always so jealous of the girls at my school; they had the best makeup and the coolest clothes. I had always wanted to look just like them, and now I did. And this is what I wanted to look like for the rest of my life.

I heard the back door slam, and my heart thumped so hard I thought it might tear right through my chest.

 Dad came up behind me.

“Benjamin...what the hell are you doing?”
